Students of the Recording Arts class are learning all about microphones, and proper mic technique.  In the first picture, Kirk sets up a mid-side recording pattern as Amanda prepares to record some acoustic guitar, and in the second picture, Instructor Chris Conti assists Matt with good mic placement on a tom-tom drum.
